NZ identity

I think Barry Crump narrated the story in first person because it puts the listeners/readers into the characters shoes and helps describe everything that the character sees and does. This is a effective technique because it paints a better picture into the readers minds making the story much more readable. He chose to do this because he knows

Q1: Do you like uncle Hec and Ricky?

I like Ricky and Uncle Hec because they represent true New Zealanders and how others think we are as a country. They both dont care about others opinions and only about their way of life.

Q2: Do you think they are realistic characters?

I think they are realistic characters because they represent New zealand identity and how we are as a country. Ricky is a teenager who doesn’t care about his actions and wants to be a gangster. Uncle Hec is a bushman and hunts for a living. He as a character can be found all over New Zealand as many New Zealanders are like him and hunt in the bush.

Uncle Hec and Ricky as characters are completely different. Ricky is more of a city boy and wants to be a gangster. Uncle Hec is a bushman and doesn’t like society so he lives far out from any town in the bush. Ricky’s first opinions of Hec are that he is mean and doesn’t like him at all. Hecs opinions on Ricky are that he is an annoying little kid and doesn’t like him. He seems to be ashamed to be his uncle and wants nothing to do with him.
